Departmental Purchases

University of Michigan departments are welcome at Tech Shop! We have many of the tech products needed for a productive work day in stock for purchase same-day. We also take Shortcode payment and can even deliver directly to your Ann Arbor office. Read on for all the details.

Recommended Hardware

We work with several IT departments across campus to stock hardware specifically recommended for their faculty and staff. Use the links below to shop recommended hardware models in our catalog:

Ordering

Place an order online for your department, and we will ship, deliver, or hold for pickup at one of our store locations.

Shipping

We ship to anywhere in the continental United States (excluding P.O. Boxes); this does include both U-M campus and residential addresses. We ship via UPS, and fees are calculated at the time of checkout based on the shipping option selected. Fees include insurance.

Store Pickup

Store pickup service is available at both Tech Shop locations. Simply select Store Pickup as your Fulfillment Method at checkout, and we contact you when your order is ready. Order number and UMID (MCard) will be required at pickup.

If you choose Michigan Union as your pickup location, you will have the option to pickup in-store or request curbside service when you arrive. To request curbside service:

  1. park on Kennedy Drive,
  2. call or text us at 734-478-7951,
  3. include your uniqname and vehicle description in your message.

Delivery

Delivery is a complimentary service for all departments on the Ann Arbor campus. Please complete all the information requested during the order process, including any special instructions that will assist our drivers in locating and accessing the delivery location.

You will receive an email from Tech Shop when your order is queued for delivery.

  • Orders placed before 10 a.m. will be delivered same-day.
  • Orders placed after 10 a.m. (or on weekends) will be delivered the next business day.

We will contact you via email to reschedule delivery if the items you ordered are not in stock or if we are unable to make the delivery for any reason.

Medical Campus Customers

We will make every effort to deliver items for the Medical Campus directly to the room requested; however, this is occasionally not possible due to health concerns and/or building policies. In that case, items will be delivered to the front desk or reception area of the specified department. If you have questions relating to your order, delivery, or products, please send your inquiry to [email protected].

Payment

We process departmental sales via U-M Shortcode; we are not able to accept P-Cards due to university regulations. Departmental sales are not subject to sales tax.

Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP)

Through Apple’s Device Enrollment Program (DEP), all Apple devices purchased from Tech Shop are fully compatible with the software used to manage university-owned hardware, which means they are automatically integrated with the U-M IT support environment as soon as you make the purchase.

  • Tech Shop Apple Purchases
All eligible Apple devices purchased through the Tech Shop are automatically enrolled in DEP at point-of-sale.
  • M-Marketsite Apple Purchases
All eligible Apple devices purchased via the Apple punch-out on M-Marketsite are automatically enrolled in DEP.
  • Other Apple Purchases
macOS devices purchased through an outside channel (e.g. online Apple Education Store or the Apple Store at Briarwood Mall) are not eligible for DEP enrollment. iOS devices purchased outside of the Tech Shop or M-Marketsite can be prepared manually via Apple Configurator.

Gift Cards

Tech Shop offers gift cards for use by those faculty, staff, and students who are eligible to purchase from us. The university's Standard Practice Guide has policies that all departments should be aware of regarding the purchasing and dispensing of gift cards.

Please see Section 501.12 of the SPG.

Software

Tech Shop sells licensed software for personal use. Departments may only purchase licensed software on a Shortcode for use on a faculty/staff member's personal computer.

For information about purchasing licensed software products for use on university-owned computers, please contact ITS Software Services.

Tech Repair

Departments are welcome to take advantage of our authorized repair service for university-owned devices under warranty or charged to a Shortcode.

Departmental services include simplified repair or replacement of accidentally damaged devices insured by the university. Through our partnership with Risk Management, we can submit the claim on your behalf and receive reimbursement directly. No need for your department to file a claim, pay for repair, or wait for reimbursement.
